FAMILY FITNESS COMES TO THE ALAMO CITY

19 November 2008

Alamo Gymnastics, a National Team Training Center located at 16665 Huebner Road is proud to announce the opening of its expansion, Alamo Family Fitness Center in the adjoining complex.

Alamo Gymnastics in its ten year history has produced top talent, having swept State and Regional competitions, regularly participating in Junior Olympic Nationals and sending its gymnasts on to NCAA competitive programs nationwide.

With the addition of the Family Fitness Center come new programs including dance, swimming, and an expanded, dynamic area for Parent/Tot classes as well as a complete fitness facility for teens and adults ranging from cardio, free weight and resistance training to Yoga, Pilates, and Circuit classes. Members have access to a premium Personal Training and Wellness program devised by Fitness Director, Heidi Reetz.

Managing Director, Chuck Rowell says "Now we have a place where parents can exercise while their child is in class; this gives them time to do something for themselves while acting as a positive role model and stressing the importance of physical fitness as a regular part of daily life." Alanna Benton, Swimming & Camp Director adds "Members can also take advantage of the supervised Activity Center designed to entertain children who are not in class allowing parents the freedom to work out."

In addition to the new facility, the Alamo family has recently welcomed Coach Vladimir Dmitriyenko a former Soviet Team Member and Coach of the Kazakhstan National Team. On top of an All-Around Championship Title, Coach Dmitriyenko has competed in five World Championships and brings boundless enthusiasm and a unique technical savvy to the gym. A graduate of the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, his coaching aims to make gymnastics truly artistic.

Mr Dmitriyenko joins an already esteemed coaching staff including Yuejin Sun, co-author of the 2008 US Gymnastics Developmental Program and Junior Olympic National Team Coach. Coach Sun was selected as liaison to the US Olympic Team at the Beijing Games in his native China where he spent countless hours ensuring the success of our Olympians and the welfare of the US delegation. Having spent the summer at the Olympic Village, Mr Sun returned to San Antonio following the Para-Olympics with a renewed sense of inspiration and admiration; "Just seeing those athletes overcome the challenges they face - made me realize that really, anything is possible for those who work for it."

Last week, Team Coach Brandon Kays returned from the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs with a Second Place National Ranking for one of his boys. "The feeling of accomplishment instills the value of commitment and perseverance in these kids, and it's a joy to see them succeed when they work so hard."

The Girls Team, coached by Tammy Miller and veteran gymnast Andrew Eddington, recently concluded their compulsory season by winning the South Texas State Championship, while their optional teams are ranked second in the State.

The once exclusive sport of gymnastics at Alamo invites San Antonio and the neighboring communities to explore a range of activities for the entire family.
